The Miami Dolphins had a bad day at the office on Monday.

Not only did they lose 27-28 to the now 5-8 Tennessee Titans, they also lost superstar receiver Tyreek Hill for most of the matchup due to an ankle injury.

The All-Pro wideout sat out a big chunk of Monday's game after landing awkwardly on his right ankle in the first quarter.

Hill was tackled out of bounds after catching a pass from Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa and looked in visible pain before leaving the field.

It was an unfortunate looking injury - one that some NFL fans are blaming on 'Cheetah's' ill-advised pre-match meal.

The WR was spotted arriving to the game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami with a McDonald's.

Hill was filmed strolling through the arena car park with the fast food in hand, and fans were joking - tongue in cheek - that it's because of his dubious pre-game feast.

"Tyreek Hill definitely got injured today because of the McDonalds he had pregame," one fan joked.

"You almost had to predict Tyreek Hill was going to get injured after he showed up with McDonalds," quipped a second.

"Tyreek Hill was seen entering the Dolphins stadium with a bag of food from McDonalds. Fins lose 28-27. Incredible comeback for Tennessee, who were a 14 point underdog. I’m wondering if there was a Filet-O-Fish in that bag," laughed another.

"McDonalds 1 - Tyreek Hill 0," said another.

In all actuality, Hill's pre-game McDonald's will have had nothing to do with his injury, and luckily for both him and the Dolphins he did briefly return to action in the third quarter.

However, he played a significantly reduced number of snaps and was in and out of the lineup.

After the game he explained what happened to his ankle in the first quarter and that a brief conversation with his wife persuaded him to get back on the field.

"When it happened, like my first reaction was like, man, my ankle is gone," Hill said. "My adrenaline kicked in, I ran off the field, then I sat for a while and it got stiff and I was going through a lot of pain. Then I just made up in my mind, I came in at halftime, I texted my wife, I was like, 'This s*** hurt.' I need an ankle massage tonight, and she's like, 'You'd better get your ass back in that game, dawg.' I was like, 'All right.'

"So I just made up my mind that it's going to hurt. It's going to suck. Tonight and tomorrow morning. I just went back in the game on my own, without anybody saying, 'Reek, go.' It was like, no, f*** this, I've got to get out there and bring some energy and be that spark."

The NFL's leader in receiving yards finished the game with 61 yards receiving on four catches as the Titans, who trailed 27-13 with just four minutes 34 seconds remaining, staged an incredible comeback.

Hill entered Monday night having recorded the most receiving yards (1,481) by any player through 12 team games in the Super Bowl era.

Despite the injury setback, the 29-year-old is still on pace to become the first player in NFL history to reach 2,000 receiving yards.

Former Detroit Lions star Calvin Johnson set the record of 1,964 in 2012.

The Dolphins now slip to 9-4 on the season after Monday's defeat, and missed out on the chance to return to the top of the AFC.

They are still in first place in the AFC East although they have left the door open to the chasing Bills.

The Titans improve to 5-8 but are still bottom of the AFC South.
